Drifters created the topic: opinions on the cost of caravan parks
I am looking for opinions on what is a reasonable fee for a simple caravan park in a country town with toilets and showers and none of the fancy add-ons.
What would you pay for a night in a park that is in a country town and walking distance from the shops?
What fees have you paid recently? please give general locations such as on beach, on river, in rural location etc.
also can you provide information on the ownership? such as private, parks or council owned.
I look forward to receiving answers from my fellow travellers.
Phil

Hi Drifters,

Well I admit I am not in one at this very moment but a trip down memory lane had me thinking about why we relocated from one caravan park to another on the Murray River.

We booked into a caravan park on the Echuca side of the river expecting a view of the mighty Murray. Permanent levy banks were in place so no view, plus we were designated a spot beside the pool. Lots of lovely lovely children screamed in excitement in the pool whilst the other lovely lovely children took out our annex ropes with their pushbikes.

This camp was asking $33 per night powered site and was within walking distance of the town Echuca itself.

However it is not what we had in mind so we relocated to the other side of the river to a caravan park in Moama. We planned on staying for minimum 3 weeks so they did us a deal of $25 per night powered site. From our camp we overlooked the river and happily watched the paddle steamers cruise by. A short 20 metre stroll and hubby could wet a line. It was serene and enjoyable, however required the car to get to the shops which was no drama.

Just thinking about it makes me want to go back. Perhaps after the Simpson?
:)

Overall, we have paid anything from $9 to $44. $44 being our only option such as Uluru and Kings Canyon (2011). We tend to baulk at prices that are more and are amazed that some charge around $100 during peak seasons AND are fully booked out. I, too, would be interested in what others have to say.

Cheers,
Sharon

Hi there Phil and Sue ..
Here at Boomi NSW, it is pretty remote .. 90 k's from either Goondiwindi in Qld or Moree in NSW.

While there is a beautiful Artesian Spa and pool facility, the cost of a powered site for the night is $23.00 is still too high in my opinion. There is a shower block with toilets and a laundry, but each person has to pay an extra $5.00 per day to use the Spa & Pool .. not right in my book !
Locals are lovely people who reflect a slow and steady way of life .. There is only ONE shop which is under a CO-OP arrangement and is also part of the Pool complex.
That's it .. no other shops or stores or even a service station. Diesel can be purchased through the shop if needed, but there is nothing available for a petrol user ..
The Van park could hold about 14 (powered) sites .. non powered sites are available in a different location the other side of the Complex at a cost of $10.00 p/n
At the moment (summer months) the Van park is empty .. it's 41 C here today. In winter months you would best phone for a booking as that is their busy time and the Hot Spa is the attraction.

.. just an overview for you folks .. Jon

Goovigen, qld. Town runs a camp in recreation ground. Power, water, slabs, hot showers and toilets cleaned every day by local volunteers. Great pub around the corner with great meals. We have stayed there twice. Money stays in town. Not on any highway but very friendly town. Located between Dululu and Biloela in queensland.
