I often tell friends down south that the mozzies are big in the top end. Today I decided to photograph one as evidence. As they say 'bringtheaeroguardandavagoodweekend'
Anyone else got a 'big' critter pic? or story?

Hi everyone,
Last dry season we certainly went through some bug repellants to keep the bites at bay. Although we knew what we were using was toxic for us we just needed something that Worked (midges and mozzies can drive you a bit batty). We have now trialled YA MATE (see article on home page) and can honestly say I feel much better using something natural that definitely works. Smells much better too.
Cheers,
Sharon

Don't have any "big" piccys but I can say this.............
They aren't big but they sure do pack a punch....what is she talking about I hear you say, well...........SANDFLIES
Got bitten out at Lee Point Beach (yes, it's in Darwin and it's a big beach) one evening and to cut a long story short ended up in Darwin Hospital.
Seems Bushmans repellant, which I was using copiously entered my interior through the bites, which I scratched and broke the skin, as you do, and I ended up with DEET poisoning.
Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy, not that I have any mind you.
Bites turned to tropical ulcers and I HAVE THE SCARS TO PROVE IT.
Moral to the story "they don't need to be big to land this big girl in trouble"
Use natural repellants whenever possible folks.

Hi Dwahma,
So true about the midges. I used to suffer terribly years ago, I have since built up an immunity (only took several thousand bites

)
I have met many people on the road who, like yourself, have ended up in hospital. Some get cortisone injections, some are told to leave the state and go home!!!
Your the first I've personally heard for DEET poisoning, we avoided Bushmans knowing the high DEET content. Most definitely sticking to organic repellants after your experience. Thanx for enlightening us all.
Cheers,
Sharon
