Hello all,
We just spent a 3 day weekend in Kakadu, headed down a track with a sign posted 'Red Lilly billabong' and found many a watering hole. On our third day of exploring we ended up on the Jim Jim road, grabbed a caffeine fix at the Bark Hut, lunch at Corroboree, then back to our dog who was being looked after outside the NP.
Here is one of the many billabongs.

Water lillies were in abundance - red, white or purple.

Everywhere we looked there was evidence of buffalo. Their wallows, prints and droppings, yet we only saw two.

Wetlands. The different species of bird life was too many to count, let alone identify. Magpie geese, herons, egrets, ducks, kites, eagles, kookaburras, brolgas, jabirus and many many more. Of a night we could hear barking owls and watched microbats catching tucker by the glow of our campfire.

In the morning we weren't the only ones looking for breakfast. This wild boar happily munched away at the roots of whatever he was digging up. We were content with our baked bean jaffles.
So overall, a picturesque, tranquil experience. We also saw brumbies and one crocodile and the sunrises over the wetlands were truly beautiful.
